TOXIC SOUP

SUMMARY: “Toxic Soup” is a documentary aimed at exposing the cause and effect of chemical and toxic pollution in America. It follows producers Rory-Owen Delaney, a native Kentuckian, and Kyle Crace, a native West Virginian, as they explore why our fish and wildlife are in decline and why infertility, birth defects, obesity, and autism are skyrocketing across America. Sprinkled throughout will be a host of interviews with industry insiders, whistleblowers, academic experts, politicians and concerned citizens exposing the cozy relationships between the major chemical and coal corporations, US political elites and regulatory agencies like the EPA and FDA. In addition, the film proposes a solution through the development of green chemistry, safer household products and the implementation of stronger regulations to safeguard the health, environment, and wildlife of our country.

BACKGROUND: Today the world is under siege from massive chemical and toxic pollution to our air and water. With ever-increasing mercury levels threatening the natural beauty and ecology of our nation, the time has come for action. Moreover, under 1976’s Toxic Substances Control Act, over 62,000 chemicals were grandfathered into the US economy and approved for use in hundreds of everyday products without testing for health or environmental repercussions. As a result chemicals like BPA and PFOA can be found in over 96% of American’s blood despite the fact that they are likely carcinogens and lack any data demonstrating their health effects on human-beings or the environment. The situation is tolerated, however, because the coal and chemical industries have flexed their financial muscle to weaken the regulatory agencies of our state and federal governments.

SPECIFICS: “Toxic Soup” is a 90 minute feature length HD documentary shot at 24 frames per second. Through the use of animation, graphics, interviews, and cinema verite, the film aims to connect with as broad an audience as possible from young to old.. Principal photography will be complete by August, and post-production will be finished by January 2009.
